The Lions seem to have resolved their red zone struggles—at least for this game.
On Monday Night Football, they successfully converted all three of their red zone opportunities, a big improvement from their previous three games where they managed only five touchdowns in 13 attempts. At halftime, the Lions are leading the Seahawks 21-7.
Detroit’s offense had touchdown drives covering 93, 14, and 70 yards, with a total of 158 yards gained in the half.
The Lions also forced the game’s only turnover when DK Metcalf fumbled after a 14-yard catch. Linebacker Jack Campbell caused the fumble, and cornerback Carlton Davis returned it 49 yards to the Seattle 14-yard line.
Davis and Metcalf have been going head-to-head in the first half, with Metcalf catching five passes for 73 yards.
The Lions’ success in the running game has been a key factor in their performance.
Jahmyr Gibbs found the end zone with runs of 3 and 1 yards, while David Montgomery added a 1-yard touchdown. Gibbs has rushed for 46 yards on eight carries, with Montgomery adding 42 yards on the same number of carries.
Quarterback Jared Goff has been flawless, completing all 12 of his passes for 92 yards. Over the last two games, he’s a perfect 24-for-24, totaling 229 yards and two touchdowns in the first halves.
The Seahawks’ only touchdown came from Ken Walker on a 1-yard run, set up by DK Metcalf’s 29-yard catch to the 1-yard line. That drive contributed 60 of Seattle’s 177 total yards.
Seattle had a chance for a field goal as the half ended, but Jason Myers’ 62-yard attempt fell short, and Khalil Dorsey returned the missed kick 31 yards to the Detroit 22 before time expired.
